The 2018 Camp Fire that consumed the town of Paradise, CA is considered the worst fire event in California history, when a firestorm from the heat of a nearby wildfire merged with high altitude wind, a river of superheated embers cascaded onto the town. The transplanted firestorm rapidly engulfed 11,000 homes (90% of all residences) and thousands of other structures - schools, hospitals, and businesses and took the lives of 85 residents in the process.

Our November 5 Spark event, “Resilience in Paradise” coincides with the second anniversary of the Camp Fire. A panel of residents from Paradise including the Mayor and Rotary Club President will discuss the day of the fire, lessons for other communities, and the current status and needs of the community of Paradise and how we can help.

This program was initiated by Caylee Burditt, the President of UCSB Rotaract Club and a resident from the Paradise area. Caylee will help moderate the panel program.
