Sunrise Rotarians enjoyed a fascinating tour of the chapel at the Santa Barbara Cemetery, led by David Petry, author of "The Best Last Place: A History of the Santa Barbara Cemetery." In our own backyard sits a hidden treasure the Chapel at the Santa Barbara Cemetery. Designed by famed architect George Washington Smith, who also designed Casa del Herrero, the Lobero Theatre plus many homes in Montecito and the Riviera. Within the chapel is another hidden treasure, the murals by famous Mexican painter Alfredo Ramos Martínez. Martínez is famous for his stylized depictions of farmers, Zapatistas and floral still life. He is considered by many to be the Father of Mexican Modernism. The tour was followed by lunch at Los Arroyos Restaurant.
