Sunrise volunteers came together for a day of service at Camp Whittier.
 
Just in time for the busy summer camp season, Sunrise Rotarians spent a Saturday making improvements to Camp Whittier. Under the direction of club members, Tom Heath, Camp Whittier Project Manager, and Ellen Chase, Community Service Chair, volunteers came together for a day of service.
 
Completed projects included:
  • Painted the newly constructed walk- in refrigerator shed.
  • Organized the kitchen pantry.
  • Cleaned the office's front porch.
  • Installed 6 cabinets in the newly remodeled Science Center building..
  • Assembled and installed a new heavy duty work bench in the newly constructed facilities and maintenance shop building.
  • Assembled and installed a new heavy duty lumber rack system in the newly constructed facilities and maintenance shop building.
  • Moved, organized, and consolidated 4 pallets of over 200 cases of oats, flour, and chili con carne, within the storage building for use at the various Boys & Girls club houses.
  • Leveled and loose-laid bricks for a new patio at the newly remodeled Science Center.

The hard work of the volunteers was rewarded with a delicious lunch prepared by Camp staff.
 
Camp Whittier is a 55-acre year-round camp and retreat center operated by the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Santa Barbara and located in the Santa Ynez Valley near Lake Cachuma. Over the past 27 years, the club has dedicated an annual work day at the Camp and installed irrigation systems, remodeled the kitchen and restrooms, built decks and fire pits, painted cabins and fences, planted trees and flower beds, made improvements to the sports court, and more!
