ANNOUNCEMENTS & REPORTS
 
RYLA is coming up, the students will be picked up and delivered to the Ojai site on Thursday, April 20 by Donna Eyman.  The following students will be participating in the RYLA program:
  • Jesus Arriaga, sophomore from Laguna Blanca
  • Clementine Conway, junior from San Marcos High School
  • Agustin Gaona, sophomore from Bishop Diego.
4-Way Test – Veronica Gallardo announced the winners of the 4-Way Essay Contest at Adams School Friday morning assembly on April 21st, the following 6-grade students won:
  • Maia Weld – 3rd Place Winner
  • Anisia Kourakis – 2nd Place Winner
  • Dax Robinson – 1st Place Winner
Cathy Calabro had two announcements:
  • Santa Barbara Master Chorale is holding a performance at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, Friday May 12 & Saturday, May 13.  “Be Not Afraid” Featuring Requiem by John Rutter.  Tickets available at www.sbmasterchorale.org.
  • A special event "Purse for a Cause" to be held on May 11th at the home of Marti Correa de Garcia, 2215 Santa Barbara Street to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Foundation for cancers affecting women and domestic violence.
Gil Garcia invited members to a Santa Barbara Sister Cities Board event on Saturday, April 22nd from 2-4 PM at his home, Young Artist & Authors Showcase.
 
MEGA BUCKS
Dennis Waid pledged a Mega Buck in honor of his birthday.  We sang Happy Birthday to Dennis!
 
Gil Garcia pledged a Mega Buck in honor of Marti Correa de Garcia and his 44th Wedding Anniversary (time certainly does fly by!).
 
GUEST SPEAKER
BEE BLOESER, SPEAKER & AUTHOR
Bee has lived in Africa the Middle East and Native American nations.  A retired speech-language pathologist, she is a member of Toastmasters International and PEO, a philanthropic education organization that funds education for women and girls.  Her historical memoir, Vaccines & Bayonets:  Fighting Smallpox in Africa amid Tribalism, Terror and the Cold War, has been praised by Foreign Policy magazine’s deputy editor and by the Economist’s Midwest correspondent and former bureau chief Johannesburg and Delhi  A percentage of net proceeds from Vaccines & Bayonets supports water wells for Africa.  Bee generously donated the sale of her book sold at our meeting to our Rotary Club.

Please help us welcome Sebastian, the newest member of our Rotary Club family.  He will be inducted at the May 5th Rotary Club meeting.  Sebastian is the Director of Urban Farm Logistics at The Terrace Foundation.

JOG-A-THON
APRIL 28, 2023 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm
CALLING FOR ROTARY CLUB VOLUNTEERS
Task include:
  • Help prepare each class (each student gets a giant sticker on their back.
  • Tally laps by marking on the sticker on the back of the student's t-shirt.
  • Spray students with water (we will supply clean spray bottles with water)
  • Manage drinks (most runners will bring their water bottles to leave on a specific location.  There are water breaks during the running.
  • Cheer!
  • If there is a photographer, please grab some candids.
8:45-9:00 (prep TK/K)
9:00-9:30 TK/K
9:30-10:25 1st/2nd grade
10:30-11:25 3rd/4th grade
11:30-12:25 5th/6th grade

May 13, 2023 - Rotary District 5204 Foundation Gala at Camarillo Airport.
 
June 11, 2023 - Rotary Club Group 8 Clubs - Social, chili cook-off at the Goleta Historic Train station.  11:00 am to 2:00 pm. More information to be announced.
