Craig Olson
President & CEO, Hillside House
Hillside House has been around for over seven decades and we believe it is a bit of a hidden treasure. There are 59 people that live at Hillside House and they hope for the same things in their lives that all of us do:
-Safety
-Security
-Friendship
-Opportunities to contribute to the common good
-Recognition by others of their abilities.

The facility if located on Veronica Springs Road and they have over 90 employees. Residents are funded by Medicaid and their Social Security, but only for basic services. They do not turn people away based on their economic situation; instead we assist families in getting funding.

The challenges are developmental and medical, over 80% of the residents are non-ambulatory.

The staff and residents at Hillside House are connected to the community, Santa Barbara and the surrounding area.

Their upcoming goal is to build 10 new state-of-the-art adaptive homes. Six people will live in each home and have his or her own room. There will also be a new Therapy Center including Physical Therapy and Aquatic therapy with nursing, medical station, commercial kitchen, conference rooms and administrative offices.  The proposal if for a unit count of 63, not including the ten homes for Hillside House residents in an integrated neighborhood.
