NOTES FROM 10/08/24 ROTARY CLUB SBN MEETING

Meeting called to order by President Cathy Calabro.

Introduction of visiting guests:

Diana Monge, guest of Joe Lanza. Diana is a student at UCSB, is interested in joining our Rotary Club and starting a Rotaract Club at the University.

Jose Gonzalez-Perez is also a guest of Joe Lanza and a 5th year student at UCSB.

Ruben Rey is the owner of Pueblo del Rey Funeral Services, licensed as a funeral establishment by the State of California in June of 2007, Pueblo del Rey Funeral Services aspires to serve as a viable and reliable choice for families of all denominations when faced with the difficult and emotional time of the loss of a loved one.

Mateo Duncan is the grandson of Ruben Rey and future owner of Pueblo del Rey Funeral Services.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Cathy Calabro announced the Family Halloween Boo Bash needs sponsorship. See Jacqueline Duran if you need additional information. Applause go to The Berryman, Inc. for their sponsorship of $5,000.

Tom Jacobs announced the Annual Adams Elementary Family Fall Festival Wednesday, October 23, 2024 – Volunteers needed for:

Set-up: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Event Help: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM – Kinder to 6th Grade rooms
Clean-up: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

MEGA BUCKS

Anthony Clark pledged a Mega Buck because they are expecting their 2^nd child. CONGRUDULATIONS!

Guy de Mangeon pledged a Mega Buck because Patricia and he will be going to Europe from October 15^th to November 10^th. Patricia will be babysitting their grandson in Amsterdam, while Guy will be visiting various parts of Europe.

Marti Correa de Garcia pledged a Mega Buck in honor of Gil and she going to our Sister City in Patras, Greece in September.

OPPORTUNITY DRAWING

Ruben Rey, guest, won The Berryman Inc. vegetable/fruit Basket. Kim Bish got the opportunity to pick the “white” marble but unfortunately picked the “red” marble.

2024-2025 DONATION PLEDGE

ROTARY CLUB OF SANTA BARBARA NORTH

“THE ROTARY FOUNDATION” (TRF)

Rotary Clubs worldwide carry out sustainable humanitarian service projects in our community and around the world. This is made possible by each Rotarians’ contribution to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). An important goal for a Rotary Club is to have 100% participation in a yearly pledge donation (within financial capability) to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). An easy way to give is to include in your quarterly club dues an amount for The Rotary Foundation (TRF). For example, $20.00 per month would result in $240.00 donation for the year. Some members give more, some less but just remember this is a voluntary pledge!

In order to determine our club’s 2024-2025 donation amount to TRF the board of directors is asking each member to let RI Foundation chair Gil Garcia know a pledge amount and if treasurer should include monthly payment in your quarterly dues invoice. Your board of directors appreciate your continued support of your club, The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara North.

GUEST SPEAKER: Rachel Steidl, YouthWell

Rachael Steidl is the Executive Director & Founder of YouthWell. She started YouthWell because after discovering one of her daughters had some mental health problems, she tried to find help, with little success. She is a true believer that “OUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS.” Some of the items she talked about:

EMPOWERING YOUTH & FAMILIES WITH TOOLS TO MANAGE THEIR MENTAL WELLNESS and SUPPORT TO NAVIGATE THEIR JOURNEY

One of the biggest reasons people don't seek help or support when they are struggling with a mental health challenge is because of the stigma and shame associated with it. No one should suffer in silence.

YouthWell's prevention and early intervention programs focus on mental health and wellness education, outreach, and improving access to coordinated care in order to connect youth through age 25 and their families to mental health and wellness resources before the crisis in SANTA BARBARA COUNTY.
