Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
Our next meeting is Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at noon
Place: Mulligans Cafe (at the Santa Barbara Golf Course), 3500 McCaw Ave., Santa Barbara, CA
Club meeting - 07/20/22
Guest speakers: RYLA students (left to right) Jasmine de Jesus (San Marcos High), Jesus Delgado (Laguna Blanca School) and Valentino Martinez (Dos Pueblos High). It was moving to hear the students talk about their different experiences with the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) program to help develope leadership skills among the youth through a camp format experience.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I am so pleased to be serving as your 2022-2023 Rotary Club president. This is a special Rotary year because we have our first female serving as the Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones (it only took 117 years for this to happen!) Jennifer's theme for this year is "IMAGINE ROTARY". The Rotary District 5240 governor is Scott Phillips who comes from a local Goleta Rotary Club. His theme is "LET'S GET LOUD!"
I recently attended the Group 8 President's meeting. Wow, Santa Barbara Rotary Clubs are really engaged in local community service projects and humanitarian projects around the world. Some events to mark-down on your calendar are:
October 8, 2022 (10-4pm) Rotary Club Santa Barbara Downtown is inviting ALL Group 8 members and their families to a Camp Whittier Day. This event is to thank people for helping rebuild the Camp after the July 2017 Whittier Fire that destroyed a very big portion of the Camp. A Group 8 Pub Trvia event is being planned so we'll need a Team of 4 from our club to enter (2 men and 2 women members). Please see me if you are interested.
Rotary District 5240 Conference November 18-20 at the Hilton Santa Barbara. Early bird registration is $198 until July 31st.
January 6, 2023 is the Million Dollar dinner for the Rotary Foundation. Guess speaker will be RI President Jennifer Jones.
I want to thank each and every Rotary Club Santa Barbara North member for all the support you have given to our club. LET'S GET LOUD THIS YEAR and show up to lunch meetings and scheduled events.
Our club would like to thank Immediate Past-President Guy de Mangeon for his dedication to Rotary. He vows to return as President in the near future.
Yours in Rotary,
Marti Correa de Garcia
President 2022-23
