INTERACT CLUB: President Correa de Garcia recently had a meeting with Henry Duran (Jacqueline Duran’s 14-year-old son) in regard to starting an Interact Club at San Marcos High School. Henry has been accepted in the APPLE Academy at San Marcos H.S. One of the goals of the APPLE Academy is to get involved with the community and Henry wants to get involved in Rotary. He wants to start an Interact Club, work on several fundraisers and proceeds will go toward Rotary Club Santa Barbara North projects. This should be an exciting project for our Rotary Club in developing young leaders’ skills. Let’s get behind this very important project!
RYLA: On April 20, we sponsored four young teens to attend the RYLA program. Marti Correa de Garcia received four letters thanking our Rotary Club for the opportunity to be part of this exciting youth leadership program. The following attended:

4-Way Test – Veronica Gallardo announced the winners of the 4-Way Essay Contest at the Adams School on April 21st at an Adams School morning assembly the following 6-grade students won:

Dax Robinson – 1st Place Winner
Veronica said it was such a pleasure to present these cash awards to the students. We look forward to having them read their essays at one of our meetings.
On April 28 Adams School had their 1st Annual Jog-A-Thon on campus. They made over $24,000. Each grade was involved, students running around a designated area. Several of our Rotary Club members volunteered, achieving our District 5240 “Week of Service”.

Marti Correa de Garcia talked about her phone call from a Rotarian supporting POLIO PLUS – our Rotary Club is one of the few clubs that haven’t donated to the Rotary International Polio Plus this year. So, Marti is donating to Polio Plus. If any one is interested, send your check to Tim Hardy, Treasurer.

A Rotaract member from Vienna, Austria (Benjamin Gruber) is looking for housing during his studies at UCSB in the Science & Engineering Department. This young man will be joining Professor Meilburg’s research group at UCSB as part of his master’s degree. He will be in Santa Barbara from August 2023 to February 2024 and is looking to lease a room in a home (preferably near the University). This young man is 24 years old, some of his hobbies are: ballroom dancing, artist, skier, mountaineering and of course Rotaract.
