The Board of Directors met on Monday and the following items were discussed:
Finding a permanent place to meet – Anthony Clark is still investigating possibilities. Until further notice we will meet at the Brass Bear Uptown. Due to increases in cost of lunches, the board voted to raise the meal cost to $30.
Report on Adams School – Dennis Waid announced that the April 5, 2023, meeting will be held at Adams School. We have lots of activities planned, one is the dedication of the library honoring our deceased Rotary brother Stanley Weinstein.
Youth Service Reports:
RYLA is coming up shortly. Jim Lisi’s daughter was chosen but might not be able to attend because of a very important Dos Pueblos Robotic project that will take place the same time as RYLA. Not to worry, we have students waiting in line.
4-Way Test – Veronica Gallardo announced the winners of the 4-Way Essay Contest have been chosen. The first-place winner will read their essay at the April 5th Adams School meeting.
A meeting with Sara Leo, art teacher and Principal Kelly at Adams School took place to discuss the mural project with students and Puerto Vallarta artist Javier Nino. This project will be in conjunction with the Santa Barbara/Puerto Vallarta Sister City Committee and the County School Creative Art Project.
International Service Projects:
Joe Lanza reported that the Kenya water well project has been completed, thanks to several Rotary Clubs in Kenya and the Greek Orthodox Church.
Gil Garcia reported on our Mexican projects in Puerto Vallarta.
Fundraising – Jacqueline Duran is looking for Rotary members to help in a new fundraiser. A committee meeting will take place in early April.
RI Foundation – Jim Lisi reported that a letter is being written to our members for donations to the RI Foundation, our club will do some matching funds for your donations.
The Club is planning a social in April . . . stay tuned for more information.
MEGA BUCKS
Tom Jacobs pledged two Mega Bucks for the success of the annual youth AIA Design Competition. Over 100 students participated, our Rotary Club donated $600 for the luncheon.
Anthony Clark pledged a Mega Buck in honor of his baby boy Zayden Les Clark.
John Engstrom pledged two Mega Bucks because next week he will be going to Goleta Valley Hospital to amaze the doctors and nurses on his good health!
Gil Garcia pledged a Mega Buck for a travel pass. We will be going to Mexico and to our Health Detox Spa.

SGT. MIKE McGrew retired
Mike retired from the Santa Barbara Police Department for over 30 years. His story was heartwarming and inspirational. In 2014 “911 At Ease” was co-founded by Mike and others. ”911 At Ease International” is a nonprofit organization providing direct services to individual first responders and their family members. This includes police, fire, sheriff, emergency medical personnel, hospital medical personnel, dispatchers, district attorney’s office and other essential agencies. The vision is simple: Free, confidential, professional, trauma-informed counseling services for first responders and their families worldwide.

Mike donated his book “A Higher Call to Duty”. The unimaginable, true-life story of Sgt. Mike McGrew. Over 6 books were sold for $10 and donated to our club.
