Global Reach: Stories from the Field

Our members have been busy making a difference around the world:

• Clean Water in Africa: Joe Lanza shared a moving update on his team's recent trip to Malawi. After nearly three weeks, they visited five well sites in various stages of development. From a new well in Mubuni producing significant water (though requiring a future filtration system) to the Dunumu well where over 100 students welcomed them with song, the impact is undeniable.

• A Close Call in Mexico: Marty and Gil shared a harrowing but ultimately inspiring story of being caught in the middle of cartel violence while on a wellness retreat in Mexico.
  After their hotel was blocked by burning vehicles, they were safely evacuated to Guadalajara with the help of local firefighters whom the Rotary Club had previously trained.

Spotlight: Carl Lovegren and Oxygen Therapy

Our program guest, Carl Lovegren, shared his groundbreaking work with oxygen therapy for cancer treatment in Puerto Vallarta. After being told 30 years ago that he was terminally ill, Carl embarked on a journey that led him to the metabolic approach to cancer.

His program in Mexico uses highly infused oxygen water to flood the bodies of cancer patients with oxygen, an environment where cancer struggles to survive. The results have been remarkable:

• In a region where 50% of children with cancer typically succumb to the disease, Carl’s program has only lost two children in five years (both of whom had been declared cancer-free before stopping treatment).

• The program has also shown success with pancreatic, ovarian, and brain cancers, as well as aiding in the recovery of Alzheimer's and stroke patients.
