VISTING ROTARIANS:  Cindy Dutra is the spouse of District Governor Mike Dutra and a Rotary member of Westlake Village. Roberto Najera is coming back to our Club, we welcome him with open arms!

POTENTIAL ROTARIANS:  Tim Smith is ready to become a Rotarian again, guest of Lisa Gosdschan. Tere Jurado is an active community leader, she is 2025 California Women of the Year, guest of Jacqueline Duran. Rob Haff, guest of Joe Lanza, was a Rotarian up North and is looking for a new club to join in Santa Barbara.

VISITORS:  Margaret Saavedra is past president of the Santa Barbara/Puerto Vallarta Sister City and Chair of the Santa Barbara Sister Cities Board she is the guest of Gil Garcia.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jacqueline Duran gave an up-date on the October 4^th Rotary Club SBN OKTOBERFEST event. Everyone had a fun time, food was great and beer was cold. Thank you to everyone who helped, the queen of the event was Cathy Calabro, she was there to set-up, welcoming people who attended, taking an event survey and helping break down after the event was over. We had helpers from the San Marcos High School Interact Club, Santa Barbara/Puerto Vallarta Sister City Committee (Margaret Saavedra, James Saavedra, Lynda Sanders, Maria Garcia) and many others. Our entertainment was fabulous, thanks to Joe Lanza (what a great singer), Alex Duran, drummer and husband of Jacqueline Duran and Donna Eyman (a base player and singer). The event made about $7,000. Hip-Hip Hooray!

District 5240 Conference is being held on October 17-19, 2025, at the Crown Plaza Ventura Beach.

Rotary Club Downtown Santa Barbara is holding TRIVIA NIGHT fundraiser for ShelterBox on Wednesday, October 22^nd 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Mike Bergquist pledged a Mega Buck in honor Joe Lanza and John Holehouse pledging Mega Bucks at a previous meeting for the golf trip they took.

Phil Palmquist pledged a double Mega Buck because his blood clot in his lungs is under control and is glad to be here!

Tim Hardy pledged a Mega Buck in honor of Roberto Najera showing up to a meeting.

MIKE DUTRA

Mike joined the Rotary Club of Westlake Village in 2017 and served as the club’s President in 2021/2022 and 2022/2023. Mike’s positions in the club have varied from.

Vocations, Membership, and Marketing Chairs and was the Districts Interact Chair for two years.

His Rotary accomplishments include being a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Paul Harris Society, a Master PRLS graduate, receiving the Dr. Otto Stoll Award from the Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks and guiding the Westlake Village club to the Gold Award in 2021/2022.

Mike has been a member of the board for the Southeast Ventura YMCA for twenty years and is a six-year board member of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber named him Volunteer of the Year in 2019.

Mike owned Candu Graphics for over 25 years. He has been in the printing field for over 35 years and started off as a Graphic Artist. When he moved Candu Graphics to Westlake Village, he joined the Rotary to promote his business. Now his focus as a Rotarian is to provide service for those in need.

Mike and his wife Cindy have a blended family of five children between the ages of 33 to 36 and they reside in Newbury Park, CA. In addition, they have four grandchildren that keep them on their toes. Mike enjoys golf, travel and joking around with family and friends (even if his jokes are not that funny).

District Governor Mike talked about Rotary and “service above self”, he is very  inspirational, and you can tell that Rotary is currently his life. Our club members learned more about Rotary, locally, district wide and international.
