Santa Barbara Museum of Art
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art was founded in 1941 and stewards a collection of more than 28,000 works of art spanning over 5,000 years. The collection includes Greco-Roman antiquities, 19th – 20th century French and American art, European and American prints and drawings, photography, Asian art, and Contemporary art.
The Museum offers education programs accessible to everyone with a clear set of ideals: give diverse people access t the Museum’s collections and resources, ignite imagination and spur learning through careful instruction, and build community connections through empathic growth and cultural exchange. The Museums programming reaches 25,000 students, 1,100 teachers and 40 community partners.
The Museum is embarking on an Imagine More Campaign to address facility structural issues and to build a greater Museum for the future of the Santa Barbara community. The original Museum was built in 1912 as a post office. It has been expanded and modified several times over the years to better serve the community but there is much more to be done. The Imagine More goal is to raise $50,000,000 to preserve, protect, expand, and maintain the Museum.
