Program –
Mike Conte, D.O., our newest club member, spoke about his profession and career path.
Mike is a doctor of osteopathy with a neuromusculoskeleton specialty.
He grew up in Hawaii, Florida, and Illinois where he attended college. His graduate work took him to four more states before coming to California.  He studied at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where the medical discipline of osteopathy originated. A civil war surgeon by the name of Andrew Taylor Still researched better ways to manage disease after losing three of his children to spinal meningitis. The tenets of osteopathic medicine acknowledge that each of us is a unit of body, mind, and spirit, that we are capable of self-healing, and that treatment is based on understanding the body structure and function. Mike treats patients with headaches, neck pain, post-surgery trauma, etc. in an outpatient setting. His philosophy is based on the premise that the body can help heal itself and his practice marries chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy with conventional medical care. He recently opened his office in shared space with Timothy Shultz, D.O., at 136 W Cota Street, Suite D. Typically insurance carriers will reimburse patients for some costs of his treatments.
