SANTA BARBARA NORTH
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Thank you to all the dedicated Rotarians that attended the September 7 meeting at my home.  It was a HOT day but we all seemed to enjoy the comradeship and speakers.  One of the speakers was visiting Rotarian Mike Baker, President of the Santa Barbara Downtown Rotary Club and Executive Director of the United Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara.  Mike led us in a Trivia game to demonstrate the Trivia Contest to be held between the 9 Rotary Clubs of Santa Barbara taking place on October 8 at Camp Whittier Day.  If you’re interested in participating, please contact me.

Our guest speaker Chief Executive Officer Jessica de L’Arbre from Habitat for Humanity presented a short talk on the history and current works of the organization.  Habitat for Humanity maintains that every man, woman, and child should have a safe place to live in dignity.  In southern Santa Barbara County, the high cost of living and vacancy rate means hundreds must live in overcrowded, unsafe, or cost-burdened housing conditions. Habitat Santa Barbara eliminates substandard housing through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing access to resources and training to help families and individuals improve their housing conditions.  Susan Renehan, Philanthropy and External Affairs Officer told us about some successful stories of Habitat for Humanity.

Our next Rotary Club luncheon/meeting will be at Mulligans Café at the Santa Barbara Golf Course.  Look forward to seeing you.
