Introduction of Guest: Tim Smith, former Rotary member, guest of Lisa Gosdschan.
Introduction of Potential Rotary Club members: Conan Horton, COO of Lee & Sons Plumbing & Heating and also owner of Conan Horton Construction. This is Conan’s 2nd time at our Rotary meeting, invited by President Jim Lisi.
Holly Hornavar is a first time visitor of our Rotary Club, invited by Cathy Calabro. Holly is the owner of H & H Real Estate Property Management.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our Rotaract candidates, Jose Gonzalez-Perez and Diana Monge have resigned from the Club due to pressing school commitments. They hope to stay involved in some of our projects. We wish them the best!
Our club recently funded a re-entry scholarship recipient, Edgar Arambula who is attending the University of ‘San Luis Obispo. The scholarship was through the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation.
President Jim Lisi announced that Rotary Group 8 will be packaging 6,000 meals to be shipped to East Asia countries. Jim will be publishing the date and place this event will take place.
Jacqueline Duran wants you to pass the LINK www.SANTABARBARAOKTOBERFEST.ORG. Still room for sponsorships, the donation cost of the event is $20, for an additional $45 you will enjoy a delicious German meal. Invite your friends, neighbors, and significant others!
Cathy Calabro, Immediate Past-President is in charge of putting a team of past-president’s together and coming up with a slate of 2026-27 President-Elect and 2027-28 President Nominee. If interest in serving talk to Cathy.
President Jim Lisi gave us a quick breakdown, prioritizing how we work with other non-profits, this is the mission RI follows:
Our Club projects are #1 priority.
Other Rotary Club projects are #2 priority.
Club Members that are active in a non-profit organization can ask for our help, #3 priority.
If we have the energy and financial resources, #4 priority will be other non-profit organizations.
MEGA BUCKS
Phil Palmquist pledges two Mega Bucks because he found his Rotary badge after 6 months. The badge had been in his Rotary package sitting on his desk.
Cathy Calabro pledges a Mega Buck celebrating Mary Kay’s “Beauty for a Cause” event on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the home of Marti Correa de Garcia. A portion of the proceeds will go to Sheltered Box. Also, Cathy will be forming a team for the “2025 Walk to End Alzheimer” Saturday, November 15, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM at Chase Palm Park.
Gil Garcia pledged a Mega Buck in celebration of the opening of our Correa-Garcia Art Collection honoring the resilience and collectivism of campesino culture, at the UC Santa Barbara’s Art, Design, & Architecture Museum on Saturday, September 27 at 5:30 PM. All invited to enjoy the opening.
Lisa Gosdschan pledged a Mega Buck in celebration of her 43rd Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, September 14, 2025.
Jim Lisi pledged Mega Buck because his daughter recently survived a minor auto accident.

- As a young youth running around Goleta Valley while playing with my bee-bee gun I came across a dead body.
- At the young age of 7 years old my dad would take me to the World War Two camp in Goleta to help with the “prisoner of war” and assist in harvesting walnuts.
- I joined the Air Force to see the world and was stationed in Japan.
