TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE
SPOTLIGHTING DR. STEVE YOUNG
I was the team captain of my High School track team.
After graduating from High School several of my friends celebrated by visiting Disneyland in Southern California.
During my college days I worked part-time as a bank teller in Detroit, Michigan.
PRESIDENT JIM LISI told the story of Rotary, starting with the vision of one man – Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world.
In the past Club Classification Policy fpr membership was important, currently the following is stressed:
Each member has a classification based on vocation or type of community service.
Classifications are determined by activities or services to society rather than by the position held.
Classification was founding principle – Rotary offers opportunities for business through acquaintance with no “competitor” in the club.
Club Classification. The question:How Do we Want to Handle Classifications? Members voiced their opinions, these suggestions will be taken back to your Board of Directors.
John quoted Francesco Arezzo, President, Rotary International:“This November, as we celebrate The Rotary Foundation, I invite you to consider not only what we give but why we give. The Foundation is more than a fund for projects. It is the beating heart of our promise that service, rooted in trust and friendship, can create lasting change.”
Donating to Rotary means clean water and sanitation. Health and hope in areas that were once ravaged by diseases like polio. Economic development and new opportunities. Your financial help makes all this happen, and more.Go to www.rotary.org to give or talk to John about giving. Our Club goal is that each member should give $250 per year, but any amount is appreciated.
Congratulations to the winner of The Berry Man Inc. fruit/vegetable basket, Michael Bergquist (hey, he won last meeting too). He generously gave the certificate to Lisa Gosdschan.Lisa Gosdschan had the winning ticket for the second opportunity drawing . . . unfortunately she did not pick the right marble.
