Santa Barbara Education Foundation

Nina Dunbar, the SBEF's Donor Advisement Officer, was able to share how their mission is to enrich the academic, artistic, and personal development of all students in the Santa Barbara Unified School District Dunbar shares how SBEF is able to facilitate this service by    supporing existing programs and actively advocaing for critical education based initiatives. SBEF's ability topromote private funding has enabled the establishment and maitenance of current literacy and music programs present within the district through the direct donation of funds and instruments to the programs that are hosted within these schools. Three elementrary school kids from Adams Elementrary show how SBEF was able to directly contribute to their education as they performed asong, Tambora, that they have been rehersing throughout the school year. After their performance they were able to share their relation to music; one student, Kevin, was able to share how "music helps [him] with [his] emotions."We were also able to see how SBEF is able to help older students that currently reside within junior and senior high.

Cathy Calabro's son, Michael Kiyoi, who is the instrumental music   director at five different schools within the Santa Barbara Unified School  District was able to show how music is able to contribute to a student's   academic refinement given the skills being taught through musical   literacy.  Additionally, music programs   within schools provide motivation   for students as it promotes     community and responsibility.   Kiyoi was also able to  comment   on the unique opportunties that   music brings to students as it   provides a broad perspective   through the skills learned   through performing and   traveling. Music acts as an   incentive to students as they are   able to use this artistic form   to express themselves and identify   their true interests. Kiyoto was   able to note that SBEF has   donated instruments to his musical   groups as well as   the Santa Barbara Bowl. To learn more about SBEF you can visit their website:
