Angel Martinez - Santa Barbara Mayoral Candidate
PROGRAM
Tim Bigelow, Program Chair for the month of September introduced guest speaker, Angel Martinez. Mr. Martinez recently retired from Deckers Brands as CEO/President. He is still on the Board of Directors. He announced his bid for City of Santa Barbara Mayor. He is an innovative business leader with 40-years of experience building successful businesses including Reebok, Deckers Brands, Keen Footwear and the Rockport Company.
He is an immigrant from Cuba, leaving in 1958 and growing up in Brooklyn, New York. His family instilled in him the value of taking advantage of every opportunity available to him. He has been a runner his entire life and incorporated his passion into his business success.
Angel was a founding member of the Board of Advisors for the Reebok Human Rights Awards and was executive producer of the Human Rights Now! Tour in 1988, working with Amnesty International. He served on the Board of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UCSB. He currently serves on the boards of The Santa Barbara Foundation, The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, United Boys and Girls Clubs Advisory Board, and the National Board of Governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Now retired and living in downtown Santa Barbara, he is running for Mayor because he believes we need new leadership to make our city the best small city in America.
As usual, we had many questions from our Rotary Club members.
After his presentation Tim Bigelow asked Mr. Martinez to sign a children’s book for the Adams School Library.
