Visiting Rotarians: Carl Lovegren, Rotary Club Puerto Vallarta Sur. Carl lived in Santa Barbara and moved to Puerto Vallarta about 2 year ago. He runs the “Kids with Cancer” center in Puerto Vallarta, located next to the Santa Barbara-Puerto Vallarta Rehabilitation Center. Dave Huber, Rotary Club in Colorado.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Emiliano Campobello gave a quick report on the Adams Elementary School Mural Project. He has been working with art teacher, Ms. Leo and the theme will be Ocean Guardians (GO), the result will be a beautiful 10’ high x 49’ long mural depicting Marine Sanctuaries of the local/central California coastline. 500 +/- students will have the opportunity to create their own OG. Funding is still in process (we are still looking for donors), hopefully the project will began in the fall of 2024. We have submitted grants to the Children's Creative Project County of Santa Barbara, RCSBN Charitable Foundation, and Rotary District grant.
Joe Lanza gave a brief up-date on his trip to Kenya, Africa to visit the water wells are club is sponsoring with the assistance of the Greek Orthodox Church. He saw lots of things in the 2 weeks he was there with his wife Alice. Rotarian Dave Huber also went along and had some great things to say about Joe. In the very near future Joe will give us a narrative on the things he saw and did, hopefully with pictures.

Jacqueline Duran reported on the San Marcos High School Interact Club meetings and update. Our club is the sponsor of this new Interact Club. The club meets once a week, they now have co-presidents (Henry Duran and Lovelynn Wills). They are working on a new project dealing with Mental Wellness and Food Sustainability. Our club bought polo shirts with the Rotary logo and Interact Club of San Marcos High School proudly displayed.

Cathy Calabro announced that the Santa Barbara Master Chorale group will perform on April 12 (7:30 pm) & April 13 (3:00 pm) at the First Presbyterian Church. "I Will Rise", Music of Resilience. See Cathy for tickets.
Lisa Biggs shared that over 100 attendees at the Fusion Academy documentary screening of Anxious Nation. The next series is S.E.A. of Success: Deep Dive into Affirming Practicers for Autistic Youth. on April 5th.
4-WAY ESSAY TEST CONTEST
ADAMS SCHOOL
Veronica Gallardo, chair of the 4-Way Essay Test Contest announced that 3 finalists were chosen. Prizes will be given at a morning assembly on March 22nd at Adams School at 8:30 am, all invited to the presentation. The finalist will receive their checks at the Adams Elementary School Rotary Club meeting and at least one of the essays will be read by a student.

Steve Young pledged a Mega Buck in honor of his 9th grandson’s birth 3 days ago.
Emilliano Campobello pledged 2 Mega Bucks because the Children’s Creative Project funded the Adams Elementary School Mural Project.
Cathy Calabro pledged a Mega Buck in honor of her son, Michael Kiyoi, Instrumental Director at San Marcos High School doing a great job at the Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors meeting when they passed a resolution proclaiming March as “Music in our Schools Month”.

Chemistry Professor at the UCSB
Mercy talked about a program she is starting at UCSB. The program objectives are to provide an opportunity for young academics in Kenya, Africa to come to UCSB to develop skills and expertise in chemistry that will translate to the development of solutions to important issues facing their local communities. The benefits for the participants will be:
Mentorship from world-renown professors
Access to world class research
Something to do over the long break, keeps them out of trouble
Opportunity for graduate school
Inspiration and opportunity for professional development and higher education goals
Opportunity to enrich their communities and campuses when they return to Kenya.
