We are fortunate to be able to have a tour of the City of Santa Barbara Desalination Plant on Friday, November 22 at 12:00 noon.  The tour will start with lunch and a presentation about the City's water supply in a large conference room at the City's El Estero Water Resource Center, formerly known as the waste water treatment plant.  The entrance to El Estero is across the street from the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission.  There is parking located on Yanonoli Street and there may be a few spaces at El Estero, so we encourage you to carpool if possible. After the lunch and presentation, we will walk across the street about one block to tour the desalination plant. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver form at the lunch.  Also, CLOSED TOE SHOES ARE REQUIRED.

The City of Santa Barbara desalination plant is one of a handful of such plants operating in the United States.  Originally constructed in 1990-91, the plant was mothballed for over 25 years, because more economical water supplies were available. Due to the recent severe drought, the plant was totally refurbished and currently provides over 3700 acre feet of fresh water a year to Santa Barbara residents.

Josh Haggmark, the City's Water Resource Manager will be making the presentation at lunch and assisting in the tour of the desal plant.
