Margaret Martin, DrPH, MPH is a Doctor of Public Health and founder of Harmony Project (www.harmonyprojectofamerica.org). Dr. Martin will discuss the science that explains how an impoverished environment can impact a child's developing brain, and the resulting impact on academic and life outcomes. You will learn how Dr. Martin's research led to the development of a transformational, data-driven program that is closing the achievement gap by preventing and reversing invisible brain-based barriers to learning.
Research with Harmony Project students by a team from Northwestern University’s Auditory Neuroscience Lab showed that Harmony Project significantly improved cognitive function and literacy in children from low-income families. School districts that have adopted Harmony Project have seen significant improvement in reading and math achievement after three years for Harmony students.
