The September 2nd Rotary meeting was a doozy.  Once again it was a full house and a scramble to find seats.  Maggie Shepard gave a wonderful inspiration about gratitude. She referenced having a nightmare about public speaking which included an appearance of Carl Dudley (no joke necessary). We welcomed new member Joy Pedersen to our Rotary family.  She comes from a long line of Rotarians and is sponsored by Garret. She is a local and is another fine representative of Cal Poly. Welcome her when you get a chance.

Allegra introduced our exchange students Sunny and Alana who hail from Taiwan and Germany.  Allegra took them surfing and introduced them to the fine flavor of the Pacific Ocean.

Dave Fuentes talked the club into joining this century (or last century) by buying a laptop so our guest speakers do not have to fret about bringing their own.  It’s about time. Don’t worry though; Tim installed Net Nanny to keep Paige off questionable websites.  I also noticed Dave made Coast and County Brokers the homepage.

Carl had a solar panel system installed for his anniversary. He and Robin spent a romantic afternoon watching the power meter spin backwards.

Jeanne introduced our program which was all international efforts.  Shoes in the news and great feats for the feet. Mike McNamara, Jim Eaton and Jeff Priolo have been super busy gathering, packing, shipping, traveling and distributing thousands of shoes.  The big batch went to Paraguay and the obstacles for delivery were daunting.  But they prevailed and did our club proud.  Those guys are spreading peace one pair of shoes at a time. I know they had assist from many of the folks in the club and really made a difference.  One of the striking revelations was that the recipients had no experience in thanking people. They had never received a gift before and had no reference for what to do.  Jeff and Jim got a well-deserved standing ovation.
