This time of year signals graduation season at educational institutions around the country. One of the pillars of the Rotary International Foundation is supporting education. Consider this: More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Rotary International's goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
I'm proud that our club mirrors the importance of this endeavor through not only our vocational scholarship program at Santa Barbara City College, but also by providing other opportunities for high school students, such as the RYLA initiative.
I look forward to seeing you this Tuesday at noon at the Music Academy for our club meeting.
