Kudos to Karen Hickman for recruiting two deserving high school students to attend District 5240's Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) for 2023, located in the beautiful hills of Ojai at Camp Ramah. Each year all participating clubs in District 5240 select ambassadors to represent them at a 4-day, all expenses paid retreat designed by Rotarians to teach and promote the leadership skills necessary to make change through service to humanity locally and worldwide. RYLA offers courses not often found in standard high school curriculum. These courses include diversity training, public speaking, team building, goal setting, leading a meeting, and character & ethics. The retreat offers a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, plus talented keynote speakers who inspire our youth to become great leaders and to do great things. The weekend culminates in an award ceremony for all students. It's inspiring to witness the growth of these students over the course of this world class retreat. They all leave with new tools to draw on for the rest of their lives in school, work, charity, and family life. |
