Central Coast Community Energy, SB County's new Locally-Controlled Electricity Provider
Central Coast Community Energy, SB County's new Locally-Controlled Electricity Provider

Learn more about the transition happening in our local electricity generation services.

The County of Santa Barbara joined Central Coast Community Energy  (CCCE) in 2019, a Community Choice Aggregator, that will begin to provide electric generation services sourced from clean and renewable electricity to all County of Santa Barbara businesses and residents, effective October 1, 2021. CCCE will become the primary electricity provider for customers in Montecito, Carpinteria, Goleta and the unincorporated communities in Southern Santa Barbara County.

The City of Santa Barbara is doing the same with its new entity known as Santa Barbara Clean Energy, also effective October 1st. All customers will continue to retain their utility provider's traditional role delivering power, maintaining the electric grid and all equipment, and providing billing and customer service as well as field service (including during power outages).

Jenny will discuss CCCE benefits, mincluding expansive local energy programs to help with the electrification and resiliency of the Central Coast, competitive prices, and local control.

President's Message
Fellow Rotarians,

I am pleased to report that the Board has approved the Club meeting in person at the Music Academy of the West starting in October.  This will be a three-month trial to see if this venue and the catered food we bring in serves our Club well.  I want to thank President-Elect, Tony Morris, for all of his hard work communicating and negotiating with the Music Academy.  This venue has several advantages including; a prime Montecito location, great venue with an excellent audio-visual setup, ample free parking, etc.

We plan on meeting at the Music Academy on the first and third Tuesday’s of each month (starting in October) from Noon to 1:30.  Our goal is to keep the cost in the $30-$35 range per meeting which includes the room rental fee (nicely discounted to $200 for our Club).  Kati and her team of Kerri, Lora and Susan, continue to lineup great speakers for our Club.  We hope the county’s health care situation improves and we can begin meeting in-person in October.

We are having a Board meeting on August 24th at 4 PM via Zoom.  Please contact me or Bernadette if you are interested in listening in on the call.  We will discuss the proposed budget, the upcoming “re-opening” of live lunch meetings, a Spring Fundraiser (we are looking for volunteers to help us organize the event), and bringing back the “travel auction” where members bring something back from a recent trip and auction it at an upcoming meeting.

Special thanks to Anita and her team for organizing last night’s beach cleanup for community service.  Anita has done an outstanding job in creating fun and diverse “hands on” projects for Club Members.  These events allow our Club to make a direct impact in our community while we also get to socialize with Club members and get outside and have fun.

Please stay safe and enjoy these last days of summer.  We look forward to seeing you at our meeting on Tuesday, August 17th.
Tom Fisher

Thanks, Tom
