Efforts on nuclear abolition and other global challenges, including climate change

In 2022, Dr. Ivana Nicolic Hughes took the helm of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, vowing to nurture and continue its dedication to a peaceful world, free of nuclear weapons. An accomplished scientist, teacher, and researcher, with noted expertise on environmental impacts of nuclear testing, Ivana brings a fresh perspective and unparalleled commitment to nuclear abolition and other global challenges, including climate change.

Hughes’s scholarly work focuses on the dangers of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy, and the environmental impacts of nuclear weapons testing in the Marshall Islands and elsewhere. She combines her interest in global issues with her commitment to engaging the younger generation on topics at the intersection of science and society.

To learn more about Dr. Hughes' education and experience please see the NoozHawk article on her appointment as President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation.

President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The next meeting of the Rotary Club of Montecito will be held this Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 12 pm at the Music Academy of the West. Our guest speaker will be Ivana Hughes, President, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation.

We will have lunch on the back patio (enter through front door of the Main House), followed by our meeting in the adjacent Board Room.

Also, we are participating in a Donation Drive to help provide supplies for the recently re-opened (post COVID) Beauty Salon/Barber Shop at the Golden Inn & Village, the affordable housing complex for low-income senior citizens in Santa Ynez.

The Rona Barrett Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, provides the personal grooming services by a licensed cosmetologist at no-cost for the residents, but needs assistance with supplies. Please review the list below and consider bringing a contribution to our next meeting.
