For more than 25 years, the Rotary Club of Montecito and our Foundation have sponsored scholarships for SBCC students. We'll meet May 7th at noon on the SBCC campus in the John Dunn Dining Room for the awards presentation.

Advance registration is required, so hopefully you've already let Sese know if you are planning to attend (sese.ntem@gmail.com).

President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

One of the most anticipated meetings of our Rotary year is the annual Santa Barbara City College Scholarships luncheon. This year our club will award 12 scholarships, including 7 funded by club members, to honored students. Thanks to those members who sent in their RSVPs to attend this Tuesday, May 7. Special thanks, also, to Sese Ntem for managing this event on our club's behalf.

And, don't forget to mark your calendars for the Montecito Family YMCA Preschool Graduation on May 24th at 10:30 when our club will present each child with a copy of Dr. Seuss' book, "Oh, The Places You'll Go." The books, which have been ordered and arrived, will include a special sticker acknowledging the book is a gift from our organization. As I mentioned in our meetings, this project is part of Rotary's Youth Literacy initiative.

Thanks for your continued support.

Yours in Service,

Tony

Global Grant Participation
Esnart Sikanda, secondary school student at the Grace Centre in Zambia

By partnering with other local Rotary clubs, we increase the international impact of our Club.  The Grace Centre in Zambia is a case in point.

The Rotary Club of Ventura sponsored their first ever Global Grant to help establish the Grace Centre in Kazungula, Zambia.  Kazungula is an impoverished town on the border of Zambia and Botswana. With no source of income in their families, many girls and young women of Kazungula become victims of sexual abuse.  The Grace Centre was established to remedy this situation. It provides counseling, training in tailoring, computer work, and food preparation, and in select cases, funds for secondary school education.

Our club joined in supporting this Global Grant, and our funds provided a secondary education scholarship for Esnart Sikanda, pictured above.  Click on the Read more link below to see Esnart's handwritten letter explaining the impact this scholarship has had on her life and that of her family.
