Harlan's newly published memoir, Building Community Answering Kennedy’s Call, shows what is possible when communities come together to improve their lives.

He describes his work as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a rural Turkish village, as a photographer and filmmaker for the US Environmental Protection Agency in its earliest days enforcing the Clean Air and Water Acts, and with Cesar Chavez and the United Farmworkers of America Union during its mid-1970s struggle organizing seasonal farm workers to better their living conditions.

Later Harlan brings what he has learned building communities to his own community where he leads a successful planning effort that results in the formation of a new city safe for children as well as adults.

President's Message
Fellow Rotarians,

I am honored to begin my term as our club's President. Since becoming a member 4 1/2 years ago, I've had the opportunity to watch past Presidents Cathy Cash, Todd Smith, John Lucchetti, Kati Buehler, and Tom Fisher lead our organization. I've also had many insightful conversations with other past Presidents and club members.

I look forward to hearing more ideas and thoughts on how to strengthen and promote our organization at our club assembly on Tuesday, July 19th at noon at the Music Academy.

Leading off our new year, we've already had our first service project: volunteering at the Montecito Fire Department's 4th of July Pancake Breakfast fundraiser (see pics below). Thanks to Anita, Jason, Kim and Eryn for a united team effort. It was a personal win for me, as I learned how to operate a Cuisinart Mixer!

Yours in Service,
Tony

Step Down Celebration
Outgoing President Tom Fisher receives commemorative plaque from Incoming President Tony Morris

On June 21st members gathered at the home of Cathy Cash and Bruce McRoy to celebrate Tom Fisher's year as 2021-22 Club President. We feasted on chicken, tri-tip, salads and sides while reminiscing about the accomplishments of the past year.

As the evening drew to a close, Tom was presented with a plaque to thank him for his service.  Thanks to Tom for a job well done, and best of luck to Tony as he starts the new year.
