Dear fellow Rotarians,

I was born with a genetic condition that made survival in a developing nation nearly impossible. Yet today, I feel profoundly fortunate to be here—blessed with a beautiful family at home and a Rotary family by my side. I am living proof that hope, dreams, and determination can defy even the darkest odds.

I share this not for myself, but to remind us all: challenges—no matter how great—can be overcome when we choose resilience and unity. As Rotarians, our strength lies in coming together, serving with compassion, and lifting one another higher.

Let us continue to face obstacles with courage, and to show our community that united for good, we can achieve the impossible.

Oyster Social at LongBoard's
Murray Ray, Tony Morris, Jeff and Karen Kerns, Larry Minasian, and Sese Ntem share appetizers ands fellowship with Bernadette Bagley and Kim Stone (not pictured).

Rotarians gathered at Longboard's Grill on Wednesday, August 27, for fellowship and fun.  It was a picture-perfect Santa Barbara evening with warm sun and a slight breeze. We were drawn to the location by an offer of all you can eat oysters at $1 each, and pleasantly surprised to learn we'd be sharing the space with a celebration sponsored by K-LITE radio.  Attractions included live music, dancing, and door prizes. And among the radio station staff in attendance was MC Catherine Remak, a Rotarian from the Goleta evening club. Small world!

Thanks to our social committee for organizing such a fun get together.  I'm sure we're all looking forward to the next social event!
RYLA Attendees Visit Club
President Sese Ntem and RYLA Coordinator Karen Hicks with one of the three RYLA participants sponsored by our club.

Attendees at our August 16th meeting enjoyed a special treat ... speeches by three sponsored attendees of the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.  Each student shared their unique perspective on the event:  what they felt before attending, what elements of the program were most impactful, and what lessons they learned as a result of attending.

Special thanks to Karen Hicks for her 25 years of service as our RYLA Coordinator.  She continues to do a fantastic job of selecting students for sponsorship.
Eric Stahl Inducted
Membership Chair Mark Osiel and President Sese Ntem celebrate induction of Eric Stahl with his sponsor Roger Davis.

At our last meeting, Eric Stahl was inducted as the newest member of the Rotary Club of Montecito.  Be sure to introduce yourself to Eric and welcome him to our Club.
August Face of Rotary Award
Bernadette Bagley receives award from President Sese Ntem.

Bernadette Bagley was recognized for her ongoing service to the Rotary Club of Montecito.  In addition to the certificate, President Sese presents each Face of Rotary recipient with a Ghanaian mask as a representation of his cultural roots.
