This week's meeting is a special offsite adventure at the Santa Barbara Humane Society.

CEO Kerri Burns will tell us the latest about SB Humane's mission, vision, and plans. Her presentation will be followed by a tour of the facilities.

Should be a great meeting.  Hope you can join us!

Message from our District 5240 Governor

My name is Mike Dutra, and I’m honored to serve as your District Governor for the 2025–2026 Rotary year. Over the past year, your club presidents and I have been actively preparing, through training, collaboration, and idea-sharing, and we’re ready to serve you, our members.

The Rotary International theme this year is “Unite for Good.” My ask of our Assistant Governors is simple but powerful: help unite the clubs within your group. Organize a group meeting, coordinate a group service project, and plan a group social.

Our District theme this year is “Opportunities Await”, the opportunity for fun, to build new friendships, to connect with our communities, to grow both personally and professionally, and of course, to serve. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

Here’s to a new year of Rotary, filled with opportunity, energy, and impact!

We meet the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 12:00 PM
on the main patio of the
Music Academy of the West
1070 Channel Drive

Free parking is available in both the upper and lower lots.

Dear fellow Rotarians,

One of my favorite things to do as a teen was to plan impromptu fiestas—bringing friends together to cook, dance, and most importantly, lend a hand to someone in need. It was a simple but powerful reminder that joy and service go hand in hand.

As members of Rotary, we have the same opportunity to make a difference—whether it’s dropping off canned food at a local nonprofit, volunteering at Direct Relief (as many of you did this week—thank you!), or celebrating Fiesta as a community.

Each act of service, big or small, reflects what Rotary stands for: uniting for good.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting on Tuesday, August 5th at the Santa Barbara Humane Society.

Viva la Fiesta!

Hygiene Kit Packing for DRI
DRI Staffer demonstrates how to assemble hygiene kits.

Thanks to Rotarians Claude Dorais, Lynda Nahra, Mark Osiel, and Bernadette Bagley who joined forces with members of the Santa Barbara Vinter's Foundation to assemble individual hygiene kits for Direct Relief International.  The hygiene kits contain essential items like soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other personal care products which can be distributed to those in need, particularly during emergencies and displacement situations.

Participants made a circuit past bins of supplies adding items one by one to individual bags.  In addition to doing good for our community, the effort yielded nearly 5 miles of exercise per Lynda's pedometer!

The Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation, founded in 2001, is a nonprofit that supports wellness in the local wine community by raising funds for health resources. They will be distributing the kits we assembled to local vineyard workers in need of assistance.
Backpack Drive 2025
Members pose with pile of backpacks to be donated to deserving students.

Thanks to all who provided backpacks to students to prepare them for the new school year.  And a special shoutout to Lynda Nahra who took advantage of Amazon Prime days to donate 20 backpacks! And to Roger Davis for funding the purchase of school supplies to fill the backpacks.

Delivery of the backpacks is coordinated by staff at the Montecito YMCA.  As always, they were thrilled with our contribution and grateful for our continuing support. This year the YMCA managed to collect twice the targeted number of backpacks which enabled them to support a second school. Great job everyone!
