Food Packaging at Franklin Community Center
Visiting Rotarian Taro Usami and his wife Zelda assist Club member Todd Aldrich in assembling food bags for distribution.

The Franklin Community Center was the site of our first November service event.  Club members and visiting Rotarians joined forces to assemble over 70 bags of food for local seniors and others dealing with food insecurity.

Montecito Beautification Day

The Rotary Club of Montecito was well represented at this year's Montecito Beautification Day.

Austin Pugh, Tony Morris, Bernadette Bagley, and Anita & Jason Blakemore donned vibrant protective vests, then travelled to their assigned location at the intersection of Hot Springs Road and the 101 Fwy.

Trask pick-up included the usual bags & papers, plus a bicycle fender and other surprises.  Thanks to all who helped!

President's Message
Fellow Rotarians,

We had a fascinating speaker at our last meeting (thank you, Paul!). Andrew Liepman, had a distinguished career in government working for the CIA in the analysis field for multiple decades. He gave us a fascinating look at his career, including working with former Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama.  In addition, he shared insight into key historical events during his time in service.

Our next meeting promises to be equally engaging.  It's our annual Community Grants awards celebration. We will be hearing from each of our 15 charitable recipients on how they are helping our community during these unique and challenging times.  Please do your best to attend. We're asking everyone to arrive by 11:45 as we are expecting around 40 people, and we will need to utilize both the upper and lower parking lots.

In service news, last week several members of our Club and two guests, Taro & Zelda Usami, worked together at the Franklin Community Center packaging food for their clients.  Taro is a visiting Rotarian from Japan; and he and Zelda are parents to Justin Usami, past recipient of one of our SBCC career scholarships.

It was a lot of fun and the Director gave us the ultimate compliment—we were the best volunteer group he has every worked with!

Thank you, Anita, for all the work you do setting up these impactful “hands on” service events.  I encourage all members to carve out time to participate in future projects — it is very rewarding work.

Thank you, and we will see you on Tuesday!
