City of Santa Barbara update and Mayor's priorities
City of Santa Barbara update and Mayor's priorities

Randy arrived in Santa Barbara in 1972 to attend UCSB as an Environmental Studies major, and never left. He and with his wife Janet have lived in the same house on the Mesa for 36 years and raised two children there.

You may also recognize Randy for his 37 years as owner and operator of the Paradise Cafe, or his time as a City Councilmember from 2010 to 2019.

Prior to his City Council tenure, Randy was active in community organizations such as the Downtown Parking Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Organization, Hospitality Santa Barbara and the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

He was named Volunteer of the Year from the Downtown Organization in 2010 and Business Person of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce in 2019.

Montecito Union Chorus Performs
Sixth graders from Montecito Union Elementary School entertained us with a program of holiday songs at our December 6th meeting.

It was great to have a return of the chorus after a three year absence and a nice way to kick off the holiday season.

President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

As the year 2022 ends, I reflect back on an engaging first-half of our Rotary Club's year. We've welcomed great speaker presentations, participated in community service work, and enjoyed social functions. We capped off the year with a holiday potluck at Paul and Sue Kremser's home. Thanks to our hosts and to Cathy Cash and Bernadette Bagley for coordinating.

And, we will start the new year with none other than the Mayor of Santa Barbara, Randy Rowse, who will be the guest speaker at our Tuesday, January 3rd meeting at the Music Academy at noon. Make plans to attend and consider bringing a guest to this informative presentation.

Thanks for all your support and ideas! I look forward to a promising and exciting 2023!

Yours in Service,
Tony
Welcome Sese Ntem!

Sese Ntem is the newest member of the Rotary Club of Montecito. Read the interview below to learn more about Sese.

Please tell the Club a little bit about your life: where you were born and grew up, how you met your spouse, etc.

I immigrated 24 years ago to the United States from Togo (West Africa) with the goal of achieving my educational dreams. I attended Santa Barbara City College and went on to UC Santa Barbara where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Global and International Studies (class of 2009).

I met my wife 17 years ago while we both were working at the Biltmore hotel. We dated on and off until we got married in Los Olivos in 2005. We have two beautiful young children: our son Noah (6) and our daughter Madison (4).

I also have a brother and two (2) sisters. Our parents are no longer with us. My brother remains in Togo with his family, while both my sisters are in Boston with their respective ones.

Please tell us about your work - what you do, how long you've been doing it, and what you find interesting and satisfying about it.

I’m a licensed residential mortgage lender and a member of the Kelly Marsh Team at Cornerstone Home Lending. We specialize in conforming and non-conforming loan programs, refinancing, and more. I am licensed throughout our great state of California, and I enjoy helping my clients achieve the dream of homeownership.

Please share a couple of other things about yourself that you think we would find interesting and may not know about you.

I grew up listening and playing music. I am a professional drummer and lead a local drumming group specializing in polyrhythmic beats. I also help provide school supplies to kids and teachers in need in remote areas of the country of Togo. I enjoy international travel, cooking and watching a great soccer game.
