Interfaith Efforts in the Santa Barbara Community

Steve has for more than 40 years in the nonprofit and spiritual development fields as Executive Director of Hospice of Santa Barbara, Director of La Casa de Maria Retreat Center (before it closed in 2018 following the debris flow event), and as a Presbyterian pastor in a variety of states and settings. He's been active in inter-spiritual work for 20 years, particularly with the Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist communities.

Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The final question of Rotary’s 4-Way Test seems obvious enough: Do our intentions and plans reflect others’ interests as well as our own? Have we thought to include everyone concerned, including those easily overlooked? Do we believe in mutuality, that it’s not only possible but vital that everyone wins?

The last of the four questions shows Rotary’s heart. It’s an argument against the winner-take-all mentality. It’s a belief in the greater good, that lasting impact is created when our actions reflect a generosity of spirit.

My dad was a businessman who could hold his head high wherever he went because he worked not only for the benefit of his family but also for his customers and employees. All concerned.

The fourth tenet of Rotary’s 4-way test is entirely possible.

Volunteering at Regatta in Support of VNA Health

Members Kim Stone, Peter Buehler, and Tony Morris socialize with unofficial regatta participant.

Thanks to all who showed up with family and friends in tow to assist with this year's SB Yacht Club Charity Regatta supporting VNA Health.

Volunteers moved furniture (over sand, no less!), decorated tables, and arranged auction items in preparation for the event. When the festivities concluded, Rotarians were on hand again to help tear down and clean up.

It was a great example of community teamwork and Rotary values in action!

Mike Lopus, Vice President at Colliers Real Estate, provided a fascinating glimpse into our local real estate market. He emphasized the need for increased housing supply, provided statistics on projects currently under development, and answered questions about recent rent control legislation.
