President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

This is truly the season of giving thanks. At our next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21, we will be thanking 14 nonprofit organizations who have done so much for our collective community. Our annual Community Grants luncheon is one of the most special meetings of the year. I hope you will make plans to attend.

Personally, I am very thankful for the efforts and commitments of our club members. Your support and contributions help make the Rotary Club of Montecito a thriving organization.

I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yours in Service,

Tony
Club News
Update from Amani

Our Club's longtime partnership with the Bukavu-Mumosho Rotary Club of Eastern Democratic Republic Congo continues to pay dividends. Amani Matabaro's latest update on the Congo Peace School explains the importance of the school's curriculum in the face of continuing violence.

“The east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is facing one of the world’s most complex and forgotten crises. Around 2.8 million children are bearing the brunt of violent conflict, being recruited by armed groups, losing their families and homes, and being exposed to ever-growing levels of sexual- and gender-based violence.”

In this space where so many use violence to control innocent civilians, Founding Director Amani Matabaro’s vision for active peace is revolutionary. Each week at the Congo Peace School, the students and staff focus on a principle of peace and nonviolence as taught by Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Amazing Life of Keld Hove

President Tony Morris presents Speaker Keld Hove with our Club flag.

Members assembled at out last meeting for a whirlwind review of the accomplishments of Keld Hove.  Keld has devoted his life to finding creative ways to help people in need, from developing innovative community policing practices to baking sourdough bread.  And in between he stars in "Politijagt" ("Police Chase"), a hit Danish TV show.

If you'd like to learn more about Keld, you can visit him at the San Ysidro Pharmacy in Montecito where he works with his wife Lara.
