This stunning coffee table book profiles 95 of Santa Barbara's best winemakers with stunning photos and prose. Well-known winemaker Richard Sanford, who wrote the book's Foreword, states "Matt and Macduff have captured the beauty and grace of Santa Barbara County with dignity and respect for its people."

Matt Kettmann is the senior editor of the Santa Barbara Independent, where he’s worked since 1999, and is a contributing editor for Wine Enthusiast magazine, where he reviews about 200 wines a month.

Macduff Everton gives a sense of place, whether portraits of individuals or of a landscape. For three decades he was a contributing editor at National Geographic Traveler. Everton exhibits his photos nationally and internationally.

Camp Whittier Workday

Saturday, April 10th all the Group 8 Rotary clubs, from Carpinteria to Goleta, are invited to participate in a joint day of service. We'll be working at Camp Whittier, a year-round camp and retreat center nestled among the hills of the Los Padres National Forest just north of Santa Barbara.

Working side by side with Rotarians from all the local clubs you'll get an even better sense of the scope of Rotary's impact in our community.

Participants will volunteer for specific 4-hour shifts.  Work includes painting, weed pulling, light assembly, etc. To reserve your spot please contact AG Kim Fly at flymanor@mac.com. Deadline to RSVP is April 2nd.

President's Message
Dear friends,

This month we celebrate Earth Day, as we do every year on April 22, to mark the anniversary of the modern environmental movement which began in 1970.  And this year Rotary celebrates Earth Day with a new sense of purpose, as the environment has become the newest area of focus, and Rotary plans to begin accepting global grants for environmental projects starting in July.

Though the environment is now an official area of focus, clubs around the world have long worked on environmental issues based on local needs. Our club has already sponsored three beach cleanups this year, and we look forward to turning out for the Group 8 trailwork project at Cold Spring Trailhead on May 8th. Whether with the club or not, our small actions and commitments make a difference.

See you on Tuesday to learn more about Santa Barbara wine,

Socializing in the Sand

Our March service session at Ledbetter Beach allowed club members to enjoy a little face-to-face interaction while beautifying the Santa Barbara beachfront. We had 14 people participate and took lots of pictures (including this one of Allyson, Todd, Craig, and Eryn).
