City of Santa Barbara update and mayor's priorities

Elected as Mayor in November 2021 to a five-year term.
Sworn in as the 51st Mayor of Santa Barbara on January 11, 2022.
Previously served as a City Councilmember from 2010-2019.

More about Randy Rowse from his 2021 campaign webpage:

It’s likely we met during the 37 years I owned and operated the Paradise Cafe in downtown Santa Barbara, or during my 9 years of service as your City Council Member.

I came here in 1972 to attend UCSB as an Environmental Studies major, and never left. My wife Janet and I live in the same house on the Mesa where we’ve spent the past 36 years and raised our two children.  Throughout all these years, my passion for the vibrancy of our downtown and the natural elements of our beautiful city has not diminished.

Prior to my City Council tenure, I was active in community organizations such as the Downtown Parking Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Organization, Hospitality Santa Barbara and the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.  I was honored to win Volunteer of the Year from the Downtown Organization in 2010 and Business Person of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce in 2019.

My concern for our city and devotion to ensuring a bright and vital future led my decision to enter the race for Mayor of Santa Barbara.  While some of the chronic issues of concern remain, there are new elements that require firm leadership, energy and a commitment to non-partisan focus.  Our reemergence from the pandemic shutdown, attention to our public areas and careful stewardship of the myriad of capital projects in the pipeline are demanding priorities that must be expedited and helmed to completion.

I would be honored by your support.  All of us who live in Santa Barbara know it’s imperative that we return to a clean, safe, healthy environment and vital economy.  Our time is now.

President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

After a 3-year hiatus, the Montecito Union School student choir returns to the Rotary Club of Montecito for a mini-holiday song concert on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Under the faculty direction of Pam Harzog, the 6th grade students will perform a selection of yuletide favorites. I'm so glad this holiday tradition is back!

Socializing is also part of the season and it was so good to see a nice turnout for our Happy Hour at El Paseo Restaurant on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Thanks to Cathy Cash for orchestrating the event. Stay tuned for more fun activities on the horizon.

Hope to see you at our Tuesday noontime meeting at the Music Academy of the West.

Yours in Service,

Tony
