We had a wonderful Vocational visit to the Point San Luis Lighthouse on May 30th.  We started our tour with a trolley ride up to the lighthouse, where the views were spectacular.  The lighthouse can't be seen from the town of Avila so many local people are unaware of its presence.  Once we reach to lighthouse we were divided into 3 groups.  Each group started at the different area.  We started at the tower, where we climbed very skinny steps and thorugh a hatch to where the lens was kept during the early years of the lighthouse.  The lightkeepers job was to  keep the light clean so every morning he would climb to the tower place curtains at the windows and clean each part of the lens and windows, then in the evening he would make sure the light was lit.  There were 3 families that lived at the lighthouse and supplies were brought in by boat monthly.  The rooms in the lighthouse are much smaller than what we are used today.
