INTERACT UPDATE

 

The Coast Union High School Interact Club gave us an update on their activities so far this year and plans for the remainder of the school year.  You can view their presentation at Interact Presentation

 

Announcements

President Andrew began the meeting by mentioning historical events on January 30th, including the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and the firebombing of Martin Luther King Jr.'s house, while also celebrating the birthdays of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Fred Korematsu. Andrew, the club president, highlighted the importance of leadership, resistance against injustice, and the power of artistic expression in the face of adversity. 

Tom Tierney submitted the winning bid for a pair of season passes to the Cambria Film Festival.  Thanks for your support, Tom

PE Luanne reminded everyone to turn in any Grand Raffle tickets that you have sold/purchased AND any that you know you will not be able to see or purchase so they can be made available to others. She also announced that a website has been set up for VIVA.  On the site you will be able to check out the Live Auction items and purchase your tickets for the March 14th VIVA event.  Go to cambriarotarygala.com. 

 

 

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

TRF Chair Jane Howard and her trusty sidekick, Chuck presented Paul Harris pins to Shari, Luanne, Jonathan, Karen P. and Juli.  Roger and Sue were also recognized as Major Donors and presented with some bling.

TODAY'S PRESENTATION

ADAM HELFAND, CUSD DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

Adam, addressed the urgent need for a Sensory & Movement Room tailored for students with special needs. He noted a notable increase in students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and those requiring intensive behavioral support at the grammar school. Many of these students face challenges related to sensory processing, making them vulnerable to overstimulation.  Our Youth Services Committee approved a $1,000 donation and Community Service will be voting on a donation at their next meeting.  If you are interesting in supporting the Sensory & Movement Room, donations can be sent to Christy Cofme, Business Manager at CUSD or you can email Adam at ahelfand@cusd.org.  A copy of his presentation is at Sensory and Movement Room
