Lutaisire and Steve Curry

Youth Focus Africa Foundation

Lutaisire's father died of AIDS when he was just nine, and he lost his mother to the disease when he was 14.  Against all odds, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in developmental studies from Makerere Univ. Kampala.  He has dedicated his life to providing an education, formal or vocational, to children orphaned with HIV/Aids and to empower women whose spouses have died of the disease so they can have hope and a future. The Rotary Clubs of Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Cayucos, Paso Robles, King City and Arroyo Grande are supporters of this program and encourage the sponsorship of a student for $450.  This pays for school fees, and board for one year.  For more information, you can contact Steve Curry at Pismo Rotary by email at Wetdog95@aol.com or by phone at 805-481-0987.

 

 

Announcements

Pres. Andrew welcomed us after we all sang Happy Birthday to him.  Andrew then invited us to participate in a fun quiz about things that have happened on his birthday over the years.

The Prez reminded us that November is The Rotary Foundation (TRF) month and thanked everyone who has contributed to making it possible for TRF to continue the great work they do.  

Polio Plus:  Laudon presented Polio Plus pins to John Kraetsch, Linda Sherman, Sandy Cha and Nancy Carr in recognition of their contributions of $100 or more to Polio.

Dave Melendy:  Sandy Cha, our Dave Melendy Blood Drive Chair, told us that she learned from Dave's widow, Linda, that he was a member of our club and was the one who started the blood drive.  It was renamed in his honor after he died in 2007.  Dave was the Cambria Health Dist. administrator and helped form the Cuesta College Paramedic program.
