THIS WEEK'S PRESENTATION

COMPASS ZAMBIA

In the heart of Mwandi, Zambia, Compass Zambia is changing lives—one home, one student, one smile at a time.  Founded by Paula van Zyl, this grassroots nonprofit partners with Home for AIDS Orphans to support families impacted by HIV/AIDS. From building safe homes and installing flushing toilets to sponsoring education and connecting schools to water and power, their impact is both practical and profound. Cambria Rotary has been proud to support this organization that started building its community school in 2016. The school now houses students from pre-school through 7th grade.  Last Friday, Paula visited our club to share details about a new initiative aimed at teaching children a skilled trade. We were pleased to present Paula with a check for $1,000, allowing Devine, a plumber in the village, to gain certification to teach plumbing to students at the Community School.   You can view Paula's presentation at https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1VmWdN1O5pb0xXRd7AaxsnzZDsRVKqDXD/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=106832004236820731506&rtpof=true&sd=true

Announcements

Pres. Andrew welcomed us and announced that, due to Miguel's absence, we would not have any Zoom.  He also told us that today would have been Groucho Marx's 135th birthday.  He also said that Jane Goodall, on a recent speaking tour, reminded us that we are all just one.

The Prez also told us that we would be having a co-meeting with Cayucos Rotary on Thursday, Oct. 16th at Lunada Bistro in Cayucos.  Reservations were needed by today.

5K Walk/Run to End Polio: Chair, Laudon, told us that we need four more volunteers for the Oct. 11 Walk and an additional 4400 to complete the match offered by three club members.

CALL FOR PEOPLE OF ACTION!

If you have not already done so, please consider supporting our Avenues of Service by purchasing a wreath or other greenery from our Holiday Wreath & Greenery Sale (see the flyer below) and by donating items, gift certificates, wine, and more for the Giving & Gifting Holiday Online Auction.  Karen Pelle has offered to put together a basket with your items if you need help.
