Welcome to the new Rotary year! I feel very honored and privileged to serve as your Rotary president. As a member of our club for over twenty years, I am deeply committed to our mission and core values. I am excited to integrate our old traditions as we create new ones with our slogan of "Continuing Traditions and Building New Ones".
“Rotary Connects the World” is this year’s Rotary International theme. Our District 5240 motto is “One World, One Rotary.” As a club, we follow these mottos by emphasizing on our tradition of service and fellowship - locally, internationally, and throughout our district. We are community builders by helping others. We are community leaders by impacting change.
Bakersfield East Rotary Club has been in existence since December 23, 1952. Our club is 67 years strong and has a long history of service above self. In all our years, we have pioneered impactful and long lasting community projects throughout our city and beyond. The search for a cure for Valley Fever started in our club. Valley Fever Americas Foundation was formed by our own members. We established the Rotary Park near the bluffs, delivered a fire truck to Mexico and assisted in obtaining a vehicle for Covenant Coffee. Our organization was instrumental in starting the Blood Mobile project. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, BERC refurbished two trailer homes and drove them to New Orleans to assist residents who lost their homes. These are just a few examples of our club’s contributions and strong commitment to service above self.
Come join us for a meeting filled with fellowship and fun! Stay active, be engaged and participate in as many of our events and activities as possible. I will do my very best to make you as proud of this club as I am.

President Christy was thrilled to receive not one but two Rotary flags from Incoming District Governor, Sandi Schwartz. These were picked up in Sandi's travels to Korea where she recently visited.

When and why did you become a member of Rotary? I had volunteered quite a bit of time to a professional association and decided I wanted to do the same thing closer to home and more beneficial to my local community. BERC was the perfect fit for me!
What is your classification with our club? Court Reporter.
Family information – Married to Dave Nielsen, and together we have six children and six grandchildren. Of course, we are hoping for more grandchildren!
Hobby/What you do for fun – First and foremost, I love to travel, and Europe is my favorite destination. I also love interior design and fashion so I do a lot of shopping. I also enjoy entertaining, game nights, and spending time with the grandkids. I take off a day a week to spend time with the grandkids around the pool. Best time of the year!
Anything that you would like to share – I am really blessed to have an amazing husband that supports me in everything I do. He is a true gentleman.
