The Bakersfield East Rotary Club was chartered on December 23rd, 1952. This year, we are celebrating our 65th anniversary! Our club motto for 2017-18 is "We are 65 and we care".

Dave Washburn, the founder of the Kern County chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, joined us on Friday's meeting to educate BERC Rotarians on the mission and vision of the organization.

When and why did you become a member of Rotary?
I joined Rotary in February 2010 to expand the network of people I knew for work and make some new friends with similar values. What got my attention was a service project Rotarians did benefitting people with disabilities (the field I worked in at the time)
What is your classification of our club?
I think it was last Rehabilitation but I always tell people Non-Profit Management as that is my profession.

Married for 20 years to Raquel Garcia Markovits She is a School Psychologists who keeps me on my toes!
Daughter Sarah Abigail is 12 years old in the 6th grade.
Hobby/What you do for fun
I like anything to do with the Dodgers-visited spring training a few times. I also like the LA Rams football team. I am playing a mobile version of Madden for fun and read a little here and there.
Anything that you would like to share
Joining Rotary has been good for me personally and professionally. I am indebted to many Rotarians for the contributions they have made in my life and the lives of my family. I am proud to be part of the best Rotary Club.

NO polio cases in the world as of April 17, 2018! however poliovirus type 1 positive environmental samples have been reported, one in Sindh province, and one in Baluchistan province, Pakistan. In Kenya, notification of a circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2
Great, Great news Polio Champions,
2018 from and an environmental sample has been confirmed, linked to the cVDPV2 confirmed from Somalia in March. NO cases of paralysis associated with this virus have been detected in either country.
Afghanistan: NO new cases of wild poliovirus type 1 have been confirmed this week.
Total for the year 2018 remains at 7.
Supplementary immunization days were held already in April, vaccinators aimed to vaccinate children across 24 provinces using bOPV.
Pakistan: NO new cases of wild poliovirus type 1 have been reported this week. The total for the year, 2018 is still 1.
Nigeria: NO new wild poliovirus type 1 has been reported in the past week. No cases in 1017 or 2018. 4 cases of wild poliovirus was reported in 2016.
