Brad Barnes is the Founder and CEO of Entruity Wealth, a Registered Investment Advisory firm. He began his career in the financial services industry in 1981 as an Account Executive with EFHutton & Company, and he quickly rose to become one of the firm’s top advisors. We began in prayer lead by Josh Sherley, followed by a great salute to our flag lead by Shawn Shambaugh, next a powerful rendition of “You’re a Grand Old Flag” lead by Jim Baldwin, Garro Ellis and Brad Hannink.

Our greeter was Jerene Battisti.

The roving mics where manned by David Denison and Sue Benham.

Good News & Announcements:

Mike Chertok introduced us to his guests, our symphony’s Maestro Stilian Kirov as well as their new ED Holly Arnold.

Jim Damian got Sheryl Barbich on the phone where we all gave her a group “thank you” for a great Margarita Party at her and Lou’s impressive abode!

Next was time for "Look Who's Not Working" segment spotlighting long-time Rotarian Jeff Johnson! Jeff grew up in San Jose, went to Stanford and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MBA. His career started with a 9 ½ year stint at FMC. He then came to Bakersfield accepting a position at the Bakersfield Californian. He has 3 kids and three grandkids…he thinks! Jeff joined Rotary in 1985… 34 years strong!

Program

Our program was a promotion of the upcoming (May 2, 2020) American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life of Bakersfield giant fundraiser! The program was lead by Donna Hermann, Tonia Nool and one other whose name I didn’t catch. This year, the 24 hour event will be held at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

We learned that the event was the brainchild of Gordy Klatt M.D., a cancer survivor himself. The theme for this year is “Save Lives and Celebrate Life!” The Cancer Society mission is advocacy (that’s how we have no smoking in restaurants), promoting early detection and prevention, research ($405 million last year), and general support locally with things like wigs for those who’ve lost their hair, overnight lodging, and answering questions about all things relating to cancer.

Donna encouraged us to get our colorectal screening done early and often, for the guys, be ever vigilant with monitoring your prostate and, for the ladies, regular mammograms! Great life extending tips!
