Justin Leland was recognized by President Ray for his 2nd Paul Harris Fellow
Steve Sanders was welcomed back by President Ray after an absence due to a broken leg. Steve claims he stepped in a hole at Heart Park and broke his leg in multiple places. However, rumor has it that his injuries were actually sustained when he heroically rescued a group of small children from certain death.
The Business Leadership & Ethics Conference is coming up on March 12th and volunteers are needed. Be sure to sign up!
Our only Club fundraiser – Havana Nights – will be on Saturday, April 13th. Be sure to mark your calendars and if you’re interested in helping or being on the planning committee contact President Ray.
THE PROGRAM
This week’s program was on The Kern Education Pledge (kerneducationpledge.com) and was presented by a powerhouse group of our community’s educational leaders comprised of our very own Dr. Mary Barlow (Superintendent, Kern County Superintendent of Schools), our own Dr. Bryon Schaefer (Superintendent, Kern High School District), fellow Rotarian Thomas (Tom) Burke (Chancellor, Kern Community College District), and our own Dr. Lynette Zelezny (President, California State University of Bakersfield). They are 4 of the 6 leaders behind The Kern Education Pledge known as the Kern K-16 Education Partnership.
The Kern Education Pledge is a community wide effort focusing on educational attainment and success for all Kern County students. From early prekindergarten through higher education, systems must be aligned and resources must be maximized to ensure collective success. Everyone — the public, governmental agencies, private industry, elected officials — can play a role in making education a top priority. The better at aligning work and educating students to be competitive for the jobs that exist today and tomorrow — the stronger our local economy will be.
