Scott Garrison shared an upcoming concert he's promoting at the Fox on June 24th. He's says one of the best 80's tribute bands ever, called Tainted Love.
Steve Sanders announced that CALM recently released three young Desert Big Horn sheep back into the wild.
Pat Collins reminded everyone to mark their calendars for President Dave's demotion. Should be epic.
Pat also shared a follow up on his presidential project. They built a separate bathroom for women attending a school on a remote island in India. By doing so, the retention rate for women went up. They no longer had to share a bathroom with men.
Dave gave us a quick presentation on the native garden and water feature he and his team installed in one day- at Camp K.E.E.P.
Congratulations to Dick Porter who received his six-time Paul Harris Fellow pin.
The program
Cynthia Zimmer, supervisor of the Kern County DA's Gang Unit stopped by to tell us about Kern County gangs. It was a scary and informative presentation. Their job is prosecute gang members who commit violent crimes.
- The gang unit consists of 7-10 Deputy District Attorneys
- 1 Supervising Deputy District Attorney
- 2 Dedicated Investigators formerly BPD & KCSO
Although there are a few small white gangs, Kern County is divided between Black and Hispanic gangs. Oddly enough, the black and hispanic gangs, located in the same neighborhoods share a truce. The fighting occurs with bordering gangs.
Black Gangs:
- East Side Crips
- Country Boy Crips
- West Side Crips
- Bloods (All Crip gangs hate the Bloods, thus, there are very few Bloods gang members left in Kern County)
Bloods wear red, Crips wear various shades of blue.
