WEEKLY BULLETIN
Thanks to his week's correspondent:

Important announcement

Downton Rotary will be on the move for the next 2 weeks, with 2 different locations and times!
Next week we're meeting just a hop and a skip away at the Assistance League offices for a BBQ lunch. Lunch served at 11:45, program and tour at 12:15.
A take away flyer at today's meeting listed the date for the afternoon meet up at WorkLogic incorrectly. The correct date is Thursday, September 29th. Hear about solutions to some of today's biggest HR challenges with a Q&A session with local HR professionals while enjoying a beer or glass of wine and touring this "next-generation" style company within this interactive building. Features include 6 different businesses and a private fitness gym that works together as a collective whole.
Congratulations to new Paul Harris Fellows Sonya Christian and Kristen Hagan.

Good news and announcements

  • Congratulations to Garro Ellis for his new grand daughter.
  • Real Estate big shot and fellow Rotarian, Duane Keathley was recognized by president Dave for some recent large property deals he made... and then was promptly fined $500,000 for not being present for his recognition.
  • We will meet offsite next week (across the street on R)  for BBQ at the Assistance League.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Coach Jeff Chudy, head coach for the Bakersfield College Renegade football team, stopped by to give an update on this year's (so far, undefeated) team.
  2. Coach Chudy (pronounced "Choody") Has been the coaching at BC for the past 24 years and has been the head coach since 2004.
  3. This year, in a continuing effort to prepare student athletes with life skills, he had the team (Coincidentally during their training camp) read a book together by Jon Gordon called Training Camp.
  4. Training Camp is an inspirational story filled with invaluable lessons and insights on bringing out the best in yourself and your team.
  5. The team had to journal their thoughts about the book and turn the work in.
  6. Chudy said that the kids he's getting today are dramatically different from the ones he got 10 to 20 years ago. He has to use different techniques to prepare students to meet the challenges of life both on the field and in the classroom.
  7. Chudy is working to establish relationships with other colleges to promote and facilitate transfer of student athletes so that they can continue their athletic and academic careers.
  8. Chudy has worked hard to update the athletic facilities to meet the standards of a competitive sports program.

The inspirational book Coach Chudy used to inspire this year's football team.
President Dave presents a Camp Keep shirt to Coach Chudy.
