Program: THE FLYING TIGERS
Major General James T. Whitehead Jr. U.S.A.F (Retired) gave an informative talk on the Flying Tigers and their role in the China theater during World War II.
General Whitehead discussed the level of gratitude the Chinese have to this day for those brave volunteers all those years ago, who aided in their liberation from the Japanese occupation.
He went on to remind us that it was not only the brave Flying Tigers that made sacrifices in that effort, but also, the Chinese people who sacrificed their own safety many times while attempting to save downed Flying Tigers; and thus the bond was born.
In stark contrast to what we may be seeing and hearing today, the friendships, relationships, and admiration between the Chinese people and the heroes that “flew the hump” have for one another is deep, strong, and carries on…an important reminder today.
Thank you, General Whitehead.
