Thought for the day:

This day in history:
Lewis and Clark started a really long walk in the early 1800's. Later on, Frank Sinatra died. The two events were unrelated.

Invocation: Garro stood in for Jim Baldwin.
Flag Salute: President Garro
Good News & Announcements:
Charlie Moe invited a guest named Randy Saunders and had him sit 6 feet away from him.
Not So Good News... Joe Hay announced they had a bunch of windows and cars vandalized by some jerk throwing rocks. Where's Convid when ya need it?
Jeff Gutierrez explained why he hasn't been to the last few meetings. His son has been hospitalized out of town, but now is back in Bakersfield in a local acute care hospital. We wish him the best!
Lynnette Zelezny was not at today's meeting, and she's lucky the club isn't fining people right now, because it would probably have been a big one. Seems she was recognized voted President of the Year by the CSU Student Association during last Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting.

Program:
Our own Vince Fong joined us today to provide an update on the state’s response to COVID-19 and how it will affect California financially.
The state has come up with criteria for counties to meet that will allow counties to begin phasing in the re-opening of businesses. He and local officials have appealed to the governor to allow Kern County to move forward despite not meeting the criteria. This was due to a localized outbreak in a nursing home.
Seventeen northern counties have already moved to the later phases and have reopened for business.
Vince believes that by ramping up testing at skilled nursing facilities local governments will prevent new outbreaks.
With a 54 billion dollar deficit, California is looking to the Feds for help. Even so, he said California is going to have to eliminate some of the Governor's pet projects, starting with the High-Speed Rail project.
