BHS Principal, David Reese introduced Riker Solato, the Virtual Business teacher. Virtual Business High School is a family of game-like simulations that help you teach business, marketing and personal finance in a whole new way. Linking real career skills to common core math, reading, and critical thinking competencies. It is used by over 1 million students nationwide. The students then compete against other schools is a state competition and, if they win as did BHS, they then compete nationally.
To get "hired", students interview with teachers and counselors. Once on the team, they form up different divisions, just like a real company.
This year's business was called BUMBLE, which offers bee pollination services as well as marketing several bee byproducts such as honey and beeswax products. Their slogan is "From our hive to yours." And their web site is pretty awesome.
The third mission of their virtual business is to save the bee population. "Bees’ Needs California" is their locally focused community outreach program. To educate the youth community on the importance of bees in our environment and their impact on agriculture. Their philanthropy extends internationally. Bees’ Needs International, their global outreach program, donates a portion of Bumble hives to impoverished communities in South America,
BHS won first place overall against 80 other teams from all over the state and will be competing nationally in New York later this year. They also placed first in other categories such as
