The Bakersfield High Robotics club paid a visit to the Downtown Rotary this week to showcase their robot, Garrett. The team, consisting of five members (Alehandro, Kyle, Cairah, Desiree, and Xavier), designed the robot from scratch for a competition that tasked every team with building a robot capable of collecting frisbees and throwing them into a basket. The challenge, called Spin Up, involved robots scoring points by shooting discs into goals, spinning rollers to show their team's color (red or blue), and covering field tiles at the end of the match. Their hard work paid off when they won the California state championship and earned a spot in the VEX world championship in Dallas, Texas. Last year, they made it to the state championship, but this year they took home the top prize.

 

Looking ahead, the BHS robotics team is preparing for next year's themed competition, which will revolve around robotic soccer, providing them with a new and exciting challenge. Lastly, we would like to extend our appreciation to the Downtown Rotary for donating $500 to the BHS robotics team. Their support is invaluable and will aid the team in continuing to make progress and achieve great things.
